"Now is the time the team needs me." Choo Shin-soo's old teammate's determination to win 86 games in total

Pittsburgh Pirates left-hander Martin Perez (33) is determined.

Perez started the home game against the St. Louis Cardinals at PNC Park in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on the 5th (Korea Standard Time) and allowed 6 hits, 1 walk, 2 strikeouts and 1 run (non-accident) in 71/3 innings.

The team lost 2-3 after extra time, but pitched through the eighth inning for the second time this season, serving as a starter. Out of 23 pitches with an average batting speed of 84.5 miles, only seven were strong with a batting speed of 95 miles or higher, and none of them were positive. He had good induction of all-hits.

In an interview after the game, he said, "I've been waiting for a long time to take the mound like today. I was satisfied with the things I paid attention to in bullpen pitching such as release points."

Perez is a veteran who played 13 seasons in the Major League alone. He also played with Choo Shin-soo at the Texas Rangers from 2014 to 2018.스포츠토토

He joined Pittsburgh on a one-year, 8-million-dollar contract this season, but had a month-long hiatus due to groin muscle injury. He has played 682/3 innings in 13 games so far.

"This is the moment the team needs me," he said. "We have a chance to go to the playoffs, and that's what we want. We're a good team, and our starting pitchers are all doing well. I think today's quality pitching is a good thing because it was what I wanted. I'll keep doing what I have to do and try to get better."

As he said, Pittsburgh needs good pitching from its starters. Jared Jones, who was supporting the starting rotation, left due to a side injury.

"We are still monitoring the situation. We will learn more about him in the future," coach Derek Shelton said, declining to comment on his condition.

Perez said, "This team signed me to play a game where I throw and win. I'm working for money to win," stressing that he will try to help the team win.

"I think we can do it. I have a lot of faith. We are a very good team," he said, expressing his hope to advance to the postseason.

Despite Perez's good pitching, Pittsburgh lost 2-3. The game was decided in the extended 10th inning. St. Louis Cardinals scored two runs first, and Pittsburgh Pirates only scored one run.

"We didn't get two good hits over the fence today. There wasn't much we could do. We had a good at-bat, but the two hitters headed for it," Shelton said, adding that Zack Suinski's acknowledged double in the eighth inning and Nick Gonzalez's sacrifice fly in the 10th inning flew to the deepest part of the outfield.

Pedro Parz's double at the top of the 10th inning was regrettable. Center fielder Michael A. Taylor threw himself recklessly and became a double.

"You have to trust the outfielder. He is a Gold Glove native who runs first in the Defensive Runs Save (DRS). He previously caught a similar hit in an away game in Atlanta. I believe in the player once he made up his mind to catch it," Shelton said. "If he caught it (without diving), he would have been able to throw it home and prevent losing a point."

"I thought it was the only way to stop the ball in that situation," Taylor said of why he attempted a diving catch in the scene at the time.

Meanwhile, Pittsburgh put Jones on the injured list and officially called up Joshua Palacios, who was rumored to be called up the previous day. He pinch-hit in the bottom of the eighth inning and walked.

"He didn't do well in the spring camp (due to injury). Now the build-up is complete. He was showing good batting (at Triple-A)," Shelton said, explaining the reason for calling him up.
